Review: Mill Creek Foods
Editor’s note: this restaurant has closed.
I got lost this morning coming home from stocking up on cat litter and food in Cool Springs, but I’m so glad I did. I found Mill Creek Foods. This little jewel of a restaurant is located just south of the Nolensville Road/Concord Road intesection, on Nolensville. It looks like the location was once a small gas station or the like, but it’s now a fabulous restaurant.
I stopped, curious to see what they had there. I was so pleasantly surprised. The place is neat as a pin and at first glance looks like a place you would see in Mayberry or someplace similar. But on close inspection, it’s obvious this is not Mayberry. There is a small flat-screen television above the front door where diners can catch CNN news, and the walls are stocked with gourmet condiments and teas. I was given a menu with various selections for breakfast and lunch (both served all day). I wasn’t terribly hungry, so I chose the Everyday Breakfast ($5.25), which comes with two eggs (served as you choose), two slices of bacon, four toast triangles. I ordered coffee for my beverage. Nothing on the breakfast menu looked to be over $8.
The meal was wonderful. Nothing was greasy. The meal came with strawberry jam that was great with the toast. The bacon was crisp, but not too crisp, and the eggs soft and just barely scrambled.
Other offerings I noticed on the menu were omelettes, a breakfast burrito, and quesadillas. To be honest, I was so ready for some breakfast food that I didn’t really notice the lunch side of the menu. Beverage offerings include an array of lattes, cappuccinos, chai, Jones soda, and some other interesting organic sodas. There is also a selection of desserts. Today’s special was caramel apple cheesecake.
An oustanding addition to my meal was the music being played. I thought it was a recording, but when I went to pay my bill I noticed a guitarist had been playing the wonderful classical-style modern songs in the side dining room – selections like “Yesterday” and “Girl from Ipanema.”
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to make the trip out. It’s technically located in Brentwood, but is not far south from the Old Hickory Blvd/Nolensville Road intersection, and well worth the drive. When I left a waitress asked me how I liked my food. I responded that it was really great normal food. She replied, “that’s what we strive for.” I think they’ve met their goal.

It’s nice to know that there are food options beside the dreaded chains in my new neighborhood! My fiance and I are moving to Nashville from Chicago in 2 weeks. We’ve decided to build a house in Burkitt Place which is a gorgeous new community near this restaurant. We are desperately hoping that more chef owned restarants migrate to this new up and coming area!!

Here it is 2009 and my husband just found this review from my former cafe, MIll Creek Foods. It wasn't long after that I had to shut the place down due to lack of funds and a health situation. But, I have to say, coming across this just made my day!I hated giving her up. I really fell in love with all of my customers and though I lost a lot of money taking on that adventure, I don't regret it at all! I still run into folks around town that tell me how much they miss my little place. To me, that speaks success. It was the most fun I've ever had yet I've never worked harder in my life. I just want to thank everyone that made a trip out to see me, and thank you Heather for your awesome review.
