Grins Vegetarian Cafe

Meat eaters, don’t despair – you’ll still find tasty options at Grins. In this post I won’t focus on one particular visit, but instead will offer advice on how non-Vanderbilt people can best eat there.

First, the food: you’ll find an array of regularly-offered wraps and paninis, along with specials of the day. Things I’ve enjoyed recently include a butternut squash-mozzarella-spinach-balsamic vinegar panini. It was wonderful. I’ve also tried the vegan peanut butter molasses cookies and the regular menu vegetable wrap. All very good.

The main thing to know about visiting Grins is that it’s prudent to avoid times just after when Vanderbilt classes let out. If you’re looking to go for a noon-time lunch, go at 11:45 if at all possible, instead of noon. Just after noon the place is covered with Vandy students, mostly female. When going through the line, be prepared for a quick “meal plan?” question right when you’re trying to offer your debit card or cash to pay. Students can pay with their meal plan cards, and students are the most frequent customers, so it seems to flummox staff when someone’s NOT paying with a Vandy ID. Once you get all that sorted out things will be fine.

So remember: avoid noon, and be prepared for “meal plan?” Look for the extra seating just beyond and to the right of the drink cooler, and enjoy a nice, quiet, healthy lunch. Prices are a tad high for those looking for a cheap lunch – expect to spend about $10.

Heather, does your blog have an RSS feed for newsreaders like Bloglines? If not, you might want to go into the settings menu and enable the RSS feed.

Some of us are so scatterbrained, it’s the only way we can keep up : )

Whoops! Must have been a Blogger glitch because I was able to subscribe five seconds after I sent that comment.
