Edgehill Studios Cafe

Edgehill Studios Cafe is located in a new dining/shopping development on the corner of Edgehill and 16th Ave S in Nashville. I stopped by for lunch around noon during the week, and was pleasantly surprised by my find.
First of all, parking is always a consideration. There are two-hour parking slots in the vicinity, but in case you find they are all full there is parking on an upper deck.
Drink: Edgehill Studios Cafe has a very diverse menu. It includes standard coffee-shop drinks such as espresso, lattes, mochas, etc. The beans are freshly roasted from Portland Brew Roasting Company. They also have frozen smoothies and coffee drinks, and a nice variety of specialty sodas.
Food: The food menu is dominated by sandwiches and salads. I had the “Knoxville Steamer”, the specialty of the place. It is comprised of a hoagie bun filled with meat and cheese of your choice, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich is steamed to heat it up. It was a decent sandwich for $5.25 – and it probably could have easily been split with a friend who shares a small appetite. But the sandwich was bland. I was hoping for a gourmet mustard or something, anything to give it some flavor. Also, the steaming did not reach the inside of the sandwich, and so the bulk of the meat was cold.
You can also add a number of side items to your meal, such as hummus and chips, or bakery items.
A nice element to the cafe is their seating arrangement. They have a good number of regular 4-seater tables, but also some higher-level seating with ample room for setting up laptops. They additionally have on-site computers you can use to check email. There’s free wireless internet and ethernet hookups. Flat-screen TVs in the corners play various video content, but it isn’t intrusive.
Edgehill Studios cafe is a nice place to visit. I wasn’t ecstatic about my meal, but I’ll go back to try out their other options. If you’re looking to an alternative to Fido or Portland Brew, check out this place.

Being a lost soul in Nashville after 47 years of NY and NJ diners and delis, I’ll give Edgehill one thing: I looked at their menu PDF and noted that for a breakfast sandwich with or without a meat topping amounts to only around 50 cents price difference. Not a dollar or more – but 50 cents. The base egg sandwich and most of the other prices seem reasonable too. This will require some serious hands on research. Secondly they serve Yazoo! And the parking info helps a lot too.
Prost!

I’ve tried their chicken salad sandwich. It’s pretty good, though I don’t remember how much it was. I’ve heard they have live music during the weekend evenings, too.

Glad to see this blog. I’ve been to edgehill several times and I’ve had mediocre drinks and food. It’s hard for me to tell what they’re selling. Are the a coffee shop? Sandwich shop? Print shop? Music venue? I’m sort of a coffee snob….having worked in the industry for many years as a champion barista…..wasn’t impressed.

@ lannae – thanks for the links! We’ll link back to your blog too.
@ben lehman – good point. The place has kind of jostled feel. Also, once the academic year starts back up I plan to go back to see if the place is overrun with undergrads, as Fido tends to be. If not, it may get the upperhand for that reason only.
