Pie in the Sky

Sadly, this post most definitely goes under disappointments. We’ve eaten at Pie in the Sky a couple of times, each one at their Nolensville Road location: once in the summer on their patio dining area, and again in the winter. We honestly enjoyed the pizza, and the location is a pleasant place to meet up with friends. But each meal was marred by bizarre service, which we feel detracted from the food. We’ll likely never go back.
Our first visit started out pleasantly enough, until the waitress got one pizza order completely wrong: it was just plain not the pizza we ordered. She offered nothing to compensate – no markdown on the bill, no replacement, just an “oh well, I hope you enjoy your food.”
Our second visit was even more bizarre. Our waiter was almost unintelligible in speech and even neglectful in serving and clearing our table. We had to flag him down to take our dessert order.
It’s sad that we can’t count on Pie in the Sky as a neighborhood eatery. We’d really like to.

Heather, I’m really glad we’re not the only ones who disliked Pie In The Sky.
We went to the Nolensville Rd. location after reading a glowing blog post about it.
We were sorry to see an extremely long wait in a near-empty restaurant, mediocre food, and a high bill.

Thanks for sharing your experience — We’ve never dined in, except ordering an appetizer at the bar. We always get pizza to go, and sometimes encounter long waits to ring up while our pizza is maddenly sitting on the counter. We like the pizza, though, and it’s close, so we keep going back. What about other Nolensville Rd. pizza joints? We gave up on Uncle Gio’s about a year ago when they could not make a consistently good pizza or provide good service.

With all due respect, the phrase “give me convenience or give me death” seems to be the operative theme here.
This is Nashville. It is achingly obvious after three years here that the only possible route to satisfaction / satisfactory dining is to be willing to travel.
You want pizza?
o Joeys House of Pizza, brentwood
o Picnic Pizza – 2713 Murfreesboro Road, Antioch
You want *edible* Chinese?
American Style: Fulins Asian Cuisine, 4 locations
Chinese style: Gold Coast, West End Ave. Saturdays only
Life is too short to compromise. I live 10 minutes away from Pizza Perfect on Clofton Ave. I will take a day off from work, drive 25 miles each way just to go to Joey’s. If you keep patronizing crap, you get crappier crap.

It is tough sometimes to get good ‘za around here. It is too bad, Pie in the Sky isn’t better because they have a cool sign. I almost stopped there because of the sign, but I will not now.
JoisyMike, remember House of Pizza at the Arcade has great pizza, open at lunch to late afternoon on Saturdays for those who don’t work downtown. There is plenty of street parking.
I actually think Fulin’s is kind of bad. I like the Brentwood decor, that is about it. China Chef’s secret paper menu has some items that are really Hong Kong style food. And Golden Coast, I agree, tries to have some authentic items on the weekend, like rice porridge, and warm soy milk.
And, about travel, that is what makes travel so much fun for me – it is to find really delicious food other areas have to offer.

I like pie in the sky alright, but I concur on the service. After ordering a sundried tomato and spinach pizza for takeout (and paying for both toppings), I arrived home to no sundried tomatoes. I called the restaurant and they refused to give me any sort of refund or discount.
I really like Pizza Perfect in Hillsboro Village. It’s usually busy, but pretty convenient for take-out.
I’m dying to find some edible Chinese here.
Fulins? Hate it
Pei Wei? No better

Natalie,
We like Pizza Perfect too! It’s just busy, as you say.
For Chinese, we really like Golden Coast on West End, and the much talked about China Chef in Antioch, near the Hickory Hollow Mall, is excellent too.

Thanks for the Chinese info. We’ll try both of those places.
