Bubble Tea, Getting Transified, & Farmers’ Market
After noticing that China Dragon on West End was doing construction, I figured they were just putting in some seating. Maybe they invested in some air conditioning too since the GINORMA-FAN is missing. After visiting this past Friday evening, I have discovered that they are about to be proud purveyors of the trendy Bubble Tea drink. I nosed around and found out they had a preliminary menu that had a surprisingly large of variety of teas and smoothies. They hope to have it up and running this week. The posted prices were $3.50 for a 16 oz. and $4.25 for a 22 oz. Is this add on becoming a trend at other standard Chinese restaurants? Even with the renovations, they cannot compete with the atmosphere of Fat Straw.
8/11 from The City Paper: http://nashvillecitypaper.com/news.php?viewStory=61989
A professor from at Vanderbilt once remarked to me that Tennesseans have no comprehension on two subjects: 1)sun exposure is harmful and 2) the amount of fat they eat. Obviously the latter is thrown right in our faces at the beginning of the article. This article is really about trans fats, but I find it cool because Stumpfl interviews Maher Fawaz, owner of Kalamata’s, and Kevin Niswender, in whose lab one of my friends works as a grad stduent.
The Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital is going to try out a farmers’ market today (8/21) from 3:00-7:00 p.m. It will be located on the corner of Pierce and 23rd. Parking is tough around here but hopefully they will have visitor parking labeled. This is conveniently scheduled for the time most people get off work at the medical center so traffic will be tough!

Good article!
I just picked up a Goodwill copy of Fawaz’ St. Thomas cookbook, A Taste Of The Good Life From The Heart Of The Mediterranean.
Let’s hope the healthier recipes taste something like Kalamatas!

I still haven’t hit Kalamatas yet, but I was super excited to see a new location near-ish me in Brentwood.
