Importance of correct menu terms

Megan and I recently dined at Savannah Tea Company, about a year after our previous review. While it’s an expensive service, the setting was just right for a baby shower for a friend.

However, we caught something wrong in the menu: it advertised sorbet as dessert, but instead we were served sherbet. This has been the case every time I’ve had tea there, but this time it mattered a lot more since one of us suffers from lactose intolerance. By definition, sorbet is a frozen dessert made from sweetened water flavored with iced fruit (typically juice or puree, wine, and/or liqueur). Sherbet includes dairy, such as milk or cream, to reach a milk fat content between 1% and 2%. This is an important distinction for someone with lactose intolerance.

I emailed the restaurant to point out the error, but have not yet heard back. We encourage restaurant owners to be very clear with terminology in their menus!
