El Jaliciense (Charlotte Pike)

Our fellow food bloggers at Nashville Restaurants have reviewed El Jaliciense before, with great descriptions of the regular menu items. I stopped at the taqueria recently to find that they’ve added a lunch buffet.

For $4.99, you can build your own taco and sample enchiladas, taquitos, and all sorts of other delicious items. My favorite was the chicken and potato taquitos, which were fantastic and sizable.

I was a little disappointed with the salsa that came with chips as soon as I sat down; it tasted as though it was made with canned tomato sauce. But I guess it’s tough to make anything good with tomatoes out of season. I’d suggest picking up some pico de gallo and cheese sauce from the buffet to eat with your chips.

With a drink, my meal came to $7 even. Service was very fast, and it’s easy to get in and out on a busy workday. The clientele was varied, including girl friends with a group of children, men in business suits, and others just out for a good lunch. We encourage you to stop by and try El Jaliciense!

Good to hear they are still doing well…too bad about the salsa though…we’ll have to go for the lunch buffet.

Some friends and I went there last night for Cinco De Mayo. It was the only place not completely packed in the Charlotte Pike area and we thought it would be good in a pinch. The margaritas and food were decent, but the service was the worst I have experienced ANYWHERE in Nashville. The waitress had to be asked three times to bring menus (she said they “ran out”), then had to be asked twice to bring water. She returned with one water glass for three people and looked confused when we asked if we could ALL have water. Then she brought out my order and it was wrong. When I asked her to correct it, she brought the wrong order AGAIN. At that point, I gave up. She avoided our table for the rest of the night and waited half an hour before someone else came over to tell us we could just pay at the register. To clarify, my dinner companions and I are polite, easy going restaurant patrons who were just out to have a good time, but service like this is unacceptable. I will never return….
