Dose.

By now the word has gotten out that Portland Brew on Murphy Road is now Dose Coffee and Tea. We stopped by on a weekday afternoon to check out the changes.

In short, the changes are great! The old Portland Brew always felt like a study hall area to me – stark surroundings, not a lot of lighting. Maybe a lot of it had to do with the clientele, but the atmosphere was almost always silent. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it was always like that.
The new owners have added some very welcome aesthetic changes, such as task lighting in the booths and a subtle but welcoming paint color update. There’s a long table stretching across the front windows which appears to be made of reclaimed wood. It’s a nice touch, although it could be improved by smoothing and finishing the wood. The surface is a bit rough for pencil-and-paper writing. The coffee and tea is pretty good too, and we greatly appreciated that prices are listed with tax included (why doesn’t everyone do that?). Parking was always an issue at the old Portland Brew and continues to be so, but that can’t be helped.
We think you’ll like the new Dose.

    For what it is worth, I didn't like the vibe, nor energy in Portland Brew, and never went back after the 1st visit. Nothing was wrong with the product, but I just did not want to be in that space. Maybe I will Dose a chance, there might be a different vibe and energy in there.

    The baristas at PB were great. That aspect has not changed, happy to say. The baked good have remained excellent — with the exception of the Zucchini Cake. The former incarnation was rockin' — probably the strongest draw for me. It's still good, just not extra-orbit good. The space seems a bit more refined now.
